FRIENDS AND PURCELL SCHOOL JOIN FORCES FOR MUSIC EVENING
The Friends of Canons Park held a highly successful Music Evening on Saturday 7 March 2009, joining up with the world renowned Purcell School of Music – Britain’s oldest specialist music school for talented young musicians - to present a varied programme of light classical music, and raising over £600 to provide vital funding for the Friends’ annual Fun Day in Canons Park.
The event, which was held at the Arnold House School Activity Centre in Donnefield Avenue, also helped to raise awareness of the Park and attract new members to the Friends group.
Friends Chairman, Robin Morden, says: ‘The event was highly successful and it was wonderful to see how skilled and professional these young musicians were. The funds raised will enable us to provide even more free entertainments and activities for our annual Fun Day, which this year (2009) will take place on the afternoon of Sunday 19 July. We hope to hold more musical evenings in the future and would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to offer their services to help with organisation and ticket sales.’ At the end of the evening, Robin presented the school with a cheque for £200 towards their scholarship fund.
